Tech companies from across the region came together to celebrate and showcase the sector at a ‘Best of the West’ Tech South West event in Devon.

Held at Rockbeare Manor near Exeter Airport on Tuesday November 28, the event gave established and emerging tech companies from across the South West a platform to share their success stories with the tech community.

Acronyms IT, based at Plymouth Science Park, Dashboard from Exeter, YellowDog, Bristol and LimeCloud from Barnstaple were amongst those taking part.

Fifteen companies presented to the audience, and there were panel discussions and opportunities for all attendees to speed network, discuss collaborations and secure potential new business.

Toby Parkins, chairman of Tech South West, said: “We had a brilliant mix of companies from Cornwall to Bristol taking part. Firms like Dashboard and YellowDog highlighted major investment and growth over the past 12 months, whilst initiatives including Exeter City Futures and Digital Plymouth set out plans for the coming year.

“It was a great opportunity to bring together representatives of what is the region’s fastest-growing part of the economy. Helping to showcase and join the dots across the region is part of what Tech South West does. These are exciting times and we would urge other Tech companies to get involved.”

Gareth Williams, founder of YellowDog in Bristol, said: “It was a good opportunity for me to explain to members of the tech community across the region about YellowDog and our plans for the next 12 months but also to find out more about some of the exciting companies and initiatives happening. The more we share knowledge and collaborate, the stronger the sector becomes.”

Andy Harris, co-founder of Devon-based Slingshot Six, a specialist Wi-Fi connectivity company, said: “It was fantastic to meet new people, celebrate the strength and variety of the tech sector that is growing so rapidly and do business. I learnt lots, made new connections, and secured a series of strong new leads for our work.”

Companies involved will also be highlighted in a new Tech South West ‘Best of the West’ report being published in early 2018.
