Browne Jacobson appoints litigator
National law firm Browne Jacobson has continued to expand its thriving clinical negligence practice with the appointment of new health partner Michael Chambers into its Exeter office.
Michael has over 15 years’ experience of handling litigation, arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
He previously spent nearly five years as an in-house senior solicitor in the Legal & Risks Services department at NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP) in Cardiff where he acted for health boards throughout the region and advised on a large caseload of high profile and complex clinical negligence claims across a variety of disciplines.
In addition, he has strong advisory and regulatory experience of acting in General Medical Council (GMC) professional conduct complaints, Judicial Review proceedings, trust disciplinaries and representing doctors at inquests.
Prior to his role at NWSSP, Michael gained extensive defendant clinical negligence experience, working in the healthcare teams at both law firms Nabarro and Howrey in London.
Michael joins one of the largest dedicated clinical negligence teams in the UK whose clients include, amongst others, the NHS Litigation Authority, the Medical Protection Society and insurers of various private healthcare providers.
Lorna Hardman, partner and head of the firm’s clinical negligence practice at Browne Jacobson said: “Michael’s appointment will be a great injection to our Exeter office and will really support our commitment to building up our legal health presence in the South West.
“He is a very talented litigator, joining one of the busiest clinical negligence practices in the country and I know that his extensive experience in the sector will be a great offering to our existing and prospective clients in the region and on a national level.”
Michael added: “I am excited to be joining a top quality health practice that has a really strong and varied client portfolio.
“They already have a great reputation in the region for their specialist sector knowledge and client focused approach and I can’t wait to start contributing to its ongoing success.”
Over the last three years, the Exeter office has seen significant headcount growth since its opening in August 2012 with partners increasing from two to six.
The office also posted a 33.4% increase in revenue for the 2015/16 period, a valuable contribution to the firm’s overall record breaking turnover.
This latest appointment takes the number of fee earners across Browne Jacobson’s five office network to over 500 and follows on from a successful year for the law firm which saw it receive its highest ever rankings in the latest edition of Legal 500, the independent directory of comparative law firm performance.
