
Youth Club celebrates Queen's Birthday Award
Dunkeswell Parish Council been presented with a Queen's Birthday Youth Award from East Devon District Council in recognition of the support they have given to Dunkeswell Youth Club - In particular 'The Big Show' was supported by the council and through the hard work of Anne Barratt and her team the Youth of Dunkeswell put on a showcase of their talents.
The Judges praised the initiative of Dunkeswell Parish Council for supporting and sustaining a local youth club of over 100 members. The Youth Club has a lot of enthusiasm for performing arts and so as a celebration of the tenth anniversary, the club decided to put on a Big Show for the community. The project was enthusiastically supported by the Parish Council which financed the rehearsal rents and costume budget. The Club has now put on two Big Shows, showcasing youth talent, and which has helped develop skills, confidence and community appreciation and respect.
Chairman of Dunkeswell Parish Council John Barrow said "We are all very proud of our Youth Club, in particular Anne, and the wonderful achievements of our Youngsters" he continued to say "if only more parish councils would support their youth clubs and the valuable role they play in making our young people feel part of the community".
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Chairman of East Devon District Council, said: " So much voluntary work goes into community groups such as the Youth of Dunkeswell and the council appreciates the enormous effort that these volunteers make."
