Jurassic Fibre today announced that construction of its ultrafast fibre-to-the-premises network has begun, following the granting of Code Powers by OFCOM.

The first premises will be connected in late November, when the company starts its friendly user trial in the area between Exeter Airport, Clyst St Mary and Sowton Industrial Estate.

Jurassic Fibre CEO, Michael Maltby, said: “It’s a testament to the Jurassic Fibre team’s experience that we have started to build so quickly. We are confident we will minimise disruption to local communities whilst future-proofing them for the 21st Century with a fast and reliable fibre broadband network. Not surprisingly, we are already receiving lots of interest from people, who are keen to join the free friendly user trial.”

In addition to Jurassic Fibre’s skilled team, Hydrotech Water Services UK Ltd, based in Taunton, and Barden Network Engineering, from Honiton, are just two of the local companies now working on the project.

Stephen Osborne, Jurassic Fibre’s Director of Construction, said: “The quality of local firms, such as Barden Network Engineering and Hydrotech Water Services UK Ltd, gives us great confidence in our ability to meet our objectives over the next few years, as well as providing substantial employment opportunities within the region.”

A spokesperson for Barden Network Engineering said: “We are proud to be part of this exciting project, working closely with Jurassic Fibre Ltd delivering fibre broadband to communities and businesses in the South West.”

Dan Nichols, Operations Director for Hydrotech commented: “Hydrotech are delighted to be working alongside Jurassic Fibre and, as a local company, thrilled more-so to be part of a project delivering FTTP broadband to the South West. We have vast experience working in this region and are excited at the prospect of local companies working together for the benefit of surrounding communities.”

Michael Maltby added: “Our mission is to connect communities across the region that until now have been unable to access ultrafast broadband. Jurassic Fibre will be taking the Internet experience for families and businesses to a whole new level, with packages offering guaranteed speeds from 50Mbps to 1Gbps.

“Buffering and dropouts will become a thing of the past. The new ultrafast network will allow people to be ‘truly digital’ in their day-to-day lives.”

Local residents can register their interest in taking part in the friendly user trial via the Jurassic Fibre website: www.jurassic-fibre.com
