Many parts of Devon woke up to a dusting of the white stuff this morning.

Gritters were out last night and snow ploughs dispatched to Dartmoor this morning.

Motorists whose journeys take them across higher ground are being warned to delay their journeys, if possible.

Forecasters have warned that temperatures could plunge as low as -4C tonight.

And there could be further flurries this afternoon.

The Met Office five day forecast is as follows:

Today:

Some sunny spells today and mostly dry. However, bands of cloud and showers will move southwards through the day, turning to sleet or snow inland. Windy along the coast. Cold. Maximum Temperature 6°C.

Tonight:

Cloud will break this evening leaving a dry night with largely clear skies. A widespread frost will form by dawn with some icy patches on untreated roads. Minimum Temperature -4°C.

Saturday:

Sunny spells at first but cloud increasing into the afternoon. Staying dry. Feeling cold despite winds being light. Maximum Temperature 5°C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Some sunny spells over the next few days. Mostly dry on Sunday. Rain may develop on Monday and Tuesday, falling as snow in places.
