Traffic signal works to start at Countess Wear roundabout

Essential maintenance work on the traffic signals at Countess Wear roundabout in Exeter will start this week.

From early August preparatory works will take place to minimise the amount of time that the temporary traffic signals will need to be used.

From the middle of September old signals, poles and cabling will be replaced, along with cable ducting where required.

The scheme is scheduled to last for 9 weeks, with temporary traffic lights in place for three weeks starting in the middle of September to allow the main installation works to be completed.

With major widening and improvement works underway at nearby Bridge Road, the County Council has tried to minimise disruption to road users.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member for highway management, explains: “We have coordinated this essential traffic signalling work at Countess Wear with our ongoing Bridge Road scheme in order to avoid prolonging disruption by undertaking it once the scheme is completed next year.

“Our contractors will be carrying out most of the daytime work without impacting road users and only undertaking lane closures during the evenings when traffic is lighter.
