Eco-minded staff at Redrow (West Country) are to challenge each other in a ‘green’ race to the company’s Exeter head office using different forms of transport in a bid to raise awareness of the greenest, fastest and easiest way to commute to work.

The nine commuters will swap their cars for alternative methods of transport in a challenge which will see them set off from Central Station on Friday 25th September and travel the 4.3 miles to Redrow’s offices in Pynes Hill using either a road bike, electric bike, motorbike, electric car, taxi, bus, train, walking or running.

Redrow colleagues will score the participants on their arrival at the office for their chosen mode of transport against criteria such as: comfort, time, cost, CO2 and accessibility.

Alun Potter, Redrow (West Country) Green Team Coordinator said: “We expect this event to be a lot of fun, it’s not meant to be a gruelling endurance challenge –  the participants aren’t travelling a huge distance – it’s about raising the awareness of the simple steps we can all take to reduce our carbon footprint and help the environment.

“The event has been organised by the ‘Green Team’ in our office which is made up of people from all departments. They all have varied experiences, but share an enthusiasm for identifying and implementing environmental improvements across the business.”

Westerly BMW is supporting Redrow’s green commute to work race with the loan of a stylish Pure Electric i3 car.   Matt Hill, Westerly BMW Exeter added:  ‘We’re really keen to get involved with Redrow’s green commute challenge as we think it’s a fun way to help promote sustainable transport.   The i3 is great electric car, its stylish and very environmentally friendly, and getting involved in the green commute challenge will allow a fresh audience to experience the vehicle and see just how fun the i3 is to drive.  Good luck to all the green commute to work competitors, but my money will be on the i3!“

Redrow’s green commute challenge will take place on Friday 25th September, starting at 8.45am at Exeter Central Station and participants will race to Redrow’s Pynes Hill head office.
