Topsham Pool has exciting developments in the pipeline thanks to a generous £20,000 grant from Coastal Recycling’s Community Fund.

The donation will replace the underground network of pipes that feed the pool with a fresh supply of water. The leaking existing pipes are part of the original infrastructure, installed in 1979 when the pool was built. Devon based Isca Pools have been commissioned to carry out this essential work during the winter season when the pool is closed.

The pool, which is run by volunteers, will seize this opportunity to carry out another significant maintenance project, as Isca Pools will also replace the sand used to filter any impurities in the water, allowing it to remain crystal clear without the need for many chemicals. The work aims be completed in time for the annual New Year’s Day swim.

The Coastal Recycling Community Fund release £300,000 each year for community projects across Devon who aim to enhance the natural, built or social environment. This is the second grant they have awarded to Topsham Pool in the past year. An award of £25,000 was awarded in July to install solar thermal panels on the roof, allowing the pool to harness the sun’s rays to heat the pool. This will significantly reduce utility bills needed to maintain the pool and contribute towards the community pool’s sustainable future.

Andrea Veale, Topsham Pool Secretary said: "We are absolutely thrilled to receive this second significant donation from Coastal Recycling. The pool is such an asset to Topsham, both a social hub and a place to get active. This winter's renovation work will secure the pool’s longevity so it continues to thrive."

The pool has now closed for 2016 following a successful summer of fundraising, including £700 from a pop-up café event, £2,000 donated from Nello’s Longest Table, and a terrific £1,225 from Topsham local Victoria Omerod’s sponsored swim.
