Jewellery taken from Exmouth home

Police are appealing for help to trace irreplaceable items of jewellery taken from a house in Exmouth.

Offenders forced a back door to get inside the property in Barnfield Road between 5.30pm and 8.40pm on Thursday 17 March, while the occupants were out.

They escaped with a large amount of jewellery, including distinctive items of sentimental value such as engraved wedding rings and 80-year-old cufflinks.

Items taken included:

• A man’s J W Benson gold watch. Described as square with a round face and carrying an engraving similar to ‘Presented to H W Ladbury by the directors for 25 years’ good service – 1962’.
• An 18 ct gold wedding band inscribed inside with ‘Jane and Keith’.
• A gold signet ring (possibly 9 ct) with the engraved initials KFL and on the inside ‘Jane to Keith with love’.
• A set of dark gold cufflinks which are more than 80-years-old. They are rectangular shaped and one is engraved with ‘HWL’.
• An 18 ct gold chain bracelet containing a number of charms: a Cornish pixie, shamrock, 21st birthday key, vintage car, jug, train engine, cow bell, sovereign, half sovereign, boot, horseshoe, candlestick and a telephone.
• A gent’s Rolex Perpetual Datejust watch.
• A woman’s Zodiac gold watch and bracelet.
• A woman’s gold Accurist watch.
• A woman’s TAG Heuer Aquaracer stainless steel watch.

Detective Constable Carly Davies, of Exmouth CID, said: “The majority of the jewellery is of great sentimental value to the occupants, who have told us that the items are irreplaceable. The jewellery included items inherited from late relatives and wedding jewellery.”

Detectives are also investigating a second burglary in Salterton Road, Exmouth, overnight between Thursday 17March and Friday 18 March.

Offenders smashed the glass on the back door to get inside the property before stealing a brand new 100ml bottle of Hugo Boss ‘The Scent’ eau de toilette spray for men in its box.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area at the time of the burglaries.

They are particularly keen to hear from any individual or second hand dealer who may have been offered any of the items for sale.
