On Saturday Exeter Pound plays host to a gathering of social entrepreneurs, economic thinkers, businesses, voluntary and community groups, all exploring ways to develop a more prosperous and ecologically beneficial economy in which everyone shares, starting here in Devon with local projects.

Stewart Wallis, Senior adviser at the New Economics Foundation, will give a keynote address ‘A New Economy and How To Make it Happen’. NEF is considered to be the UK’s leading think tank in promoting social, economic and environmental justice.

Also attending will be representatives of Transition Exeter, Transition REconomy, Social Enterprise networks from Exeter and Plymouth, voluntary and community organizations, faith groups and individuals.

On the agenda will be food networks, finance for local economies, social enterprises and training for young people in running them, land and food growing, devolution, green investment and more.

‘The 'Devon New Economy Gathering', this Saturday will provide a great opportunity to build on last year's Devon Convergence and make progress on initiatives’, said Jay Tompt, of Transition Network.

‘We’re excited to be bringing together people working for positive change from all over the region’ said Gill Westcott from Transition Exeter.

Creativity mentor George Hardwick will add his inimitable poetic commentary on the day.

The event is hosted by Exeter Pound, Exeter’s own local currency, which launched in September 2015 and supports 132 local independent traders, and is being held between 10am and 4pm at  Exeter Community Centre, St Davids Hill, Exeter.
