Police investigating a knifepoint robbery in Okehampton have released images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

At around 9.15pm on Saturday 9th July a man entered the Costcutter store on Exeter Road and is reported to have threatened two members of staff with a large carving knife.

The man forced open the till drawer and stole cash before leaving the shop, heading in the direction of The Giblands Estate.

Officers are appealing to the public for witnesses and any information about the identity of the suspect.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 25 and35, of medium build and around 5ft 8ins in height. He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top with the hood up, dark jeans, green padded body warmer, and casual black shoes with a white edged sole. He was carrying a knife.

Detective Constable Gavin Jordan based in Okehampton, said: “This is a serious offence, which is a rare occurrence in Okehampton. Although a weapon was used, thankfully no-one was injured.

“We have a number of active lines of enquiries which we are pursuing and we would also like to speak to anyone who recognises the man pictured, witnessed the incident or has found a discarded knife.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who has CCTV covering the area.

“Whilst there is not believed to be an immediate risk to the public we would ask the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity in the area.”
