With just 30 per cent of all “small” electrical goods recycled in the UK, Devon County Council are acting to improve this figure as they introduce a new scheme which could reward those who choose to recycle their electronic goods.

Devon and Torbay councils have teamed up with four local waste management companies, and have been awarded funding for prize draws which will take place on 11th, 18th, 25th April and 5th May.

In each draw Devon and Torbay residents have the opportunity to win one cash prize of £200 and five cash prizes of £25.

Councillor Roger Coad, who is the Devon Country Councils Cabinet Member for Environment welcomed the initiative, and has underlined the importance of disposing of electronic goods in the correct way, he said: “If everyone made a small effort and disposed of these items at recycling centres, we would see a big impact on recycling rates in Devon”

He continued: “We urge you not to put your redundant equipment into the bin and recycle instead.”

To be eligible to take part in the draw you must take small unwanted electrical items to a Devon or Torbay Household Waste Recycling Centre for recycling.

You will then be given a scratch card which holds a unique code to which you need to enter at www.recycledevon.org

The types of appliances acceptable include; kettles, toasters, irons, hair dryers, clocks, calculators, mobile phones, cameras, power tools and remote controlled toys.
