Pret A Manger’s first campus shop was officially opened this week by the company’s Chief Executive, Clive Schlee, and University of Exeter’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Steve Smith.

The shop, located in The Forum, opened to customers on Friday 22nd April but held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday. Guests enjoyed glasses of Champagne and Pret’s signature Green Goodness juices, as well as introductions to the shop’s team members (seven of whom are University of Exeter students).

Alicja Hendzel, Manager of the new Pret, said, “Our first two weeks on campus have been phenomenal and beyond all of our expectations. From our first customers crawling in on their hands and knees as soon as our shutters started opening on our first day, to this week’s official welcome – we’ve been blown away by the response from staff and students on campus.”

The shop offers Pret’s popular menu of organic coffee and handmade natural food, including sandwiches, salads, wraps, baguettes and hot options – all of which are made fresh each day in the shop’s on-site kitchen.

Early sales reveal that Pret’s organic Latte is by far the university’s favourite drink, followed by the Cappuccino and Flat White.

Pret’s Hot Wraps, Macaroni Cheese and Toasties have been well-received by students wanting to start the term with a delicious hot meal without the need for cooking.  However, the university’s most popular food item so far has been Pret’s Chicken Caesar & Bacon Baguette, with the shop’s Chocolate Chunk Cookie also proving popular with sweet-toothed customers!

Professor Sir Steve Smith, Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Exeter, said, “We are delighted to welcome Pret’s first university-based shop to our Streatham Campus, and also celebrate its official opening.

“We are committed to providing an exceptional experience to our students and staff, which as much includes our campus outlets as it does our academic rigour. We are also constantly listening to our students to help enhance their all-round experience while at Exeter, and this new Pret outlet is a great example of delivering on this commitment.”
