Argosy Arts, a creative production company formed by students from the University of Exeter, have reached their £2000 Crowdfunder target in just 15 days. The group are raising money for their debut theatre production, ‘The House of Edgar', due to performed at the Edinburgh Fringe this August.

The group have announced a new stretch target of £3000 which they hope to hit in the remaining week of the campaign. If they reach this figure they will be able to hire radio microphones for the cast, improving the sound balance of the show.

‘The House of Edgar’ is an original gothic horror musical based on the life and works of Edgar Allan Poe. Written by Argosy’s Thomas F. Arnold and Beth Cowley, the show uses folk-styled songs to retell some of Poe's most famous stories, weaving them into a ghostly new tale. The group have secured a venue to take the show to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe where they will perform for 3 weeks.

Beth Cowley, who is the Director of the show, is delighted to have reached the target “The support we have received has been overwhelming and we would like to extend our thanks to everyone who has donated so far. Rehearsals are underway with our wonderful cast and band, and we can't wait for our previews in Exeter this May.”

Argosy is a new multi-artform production company who aim to create original work that combines theatre and music. The group was formed by a number of current and former students from the University of Exeter who met whilst involved in the music and drama scene at the university.

Their project is listed on Crowdfunder, the UK’s largest rewards-based crowdfunding network. The website works by offering members of the public an opportunity to make a contribution to a project in return for a reward. Argosy are offering a wide range of these perks to their supporters including digital copies of the soundtrack to the show, tickets to their Fringe performances and framed copies of their poster signed by the cast and crew.
