Late night winter runs in the blistering cold and freezing rain couldn’t stop Jack Warne, 28, from Willand, who was determined to run the Bideford Half Marathon in aid of The Wave Project.

Jack, who grew up in Devon and recently graduated from Exeter University, now works as Marketing Executive for QuayClick, a digital marketing agency based on the Quay in Exeter. With the support of his friends, workplace colleagues and family, Jack was able to smash his fundraising target, raising over £250 for The Wave Project.

Jack said: “I was filled with determination to complete the Bideford Half Marathon in support of The Wave Project. I have never run such a long distance and training for this has been a tough but exhilarating experience. Knowing that the money that I have helped raise will go towards making a big difference in children’s lives makes it all worthwhile.

Since 2010, The Wave Project has provided surf lessons for children with mental health issues as a way of doing physical exercise, getting outside, and feeling confident about themselves. The kids aren’t pressurised into doing anything, they go at their own pace, achieve their goals and in turn earn a sense of pride in their achievements. The work that The Wave Project do is life-changing for the children they help and I jumped at the opportunity to take part in this event to support them.

All of us at QuayClick are inspired by the work The Wave Project does. When I heard the stories of how children’s lives are transformed thanks to the hard work of staff and volunteers I wanted to do something to get involved.”
