Exeter firm shortlisted in National Recycling Awards

Exeter-based Devon Contract Waste, a leading provider of commercial waste management services in Devon and surrounding areas, has been shortlisted for the Resource Management Business of the Year award at this year’s National Recycling Awards. These awards recognise and highlight excellence and innovation throughout the recycling and resource management sector today.

Devon Contract Waste is the first and only company in the South West to offer a Zero to Landfill solution, meaning that all materials that may be recycled, are. The company’s unique Envirohub on Exeter’s Marsh Barton trading estate is home to state-of-the-art sorting equipment that efficiently sorts all mixed non-food, non-glass waste, which can handle 75,000 tonnes of waste each year. Every piece of waste that can be recycled is sorted and processed, saving the client time and reducing costs, as the waste does not have to be pre-sorted. Up to 68% of waste materials are sorted, baled and sold for onward processing to create new materials and products in a wide variety of industries. The remaining materials that cannot be recycled, around 30-35%, are sent to energy from waste plants, so nothing is landfilled.

Winners of the National Recycling Awards 2016 will be announced at the awards ceremony on 6 July, held at the London Hilton on Park Lane. Last year’s event saw over 700 industry professionals gather to celebrate the achievements of the best companies in the waste and resources sector.
