Letter to the Editor: Exeter Chiefs' shame

Dear Sir

And I thought rugby was a big-hearted game. Not after the report today that newly redundant Flybe staff were turned away at the gates by Exeter Chiefs, despite having won tickets. The circumstance of Flybe’s disappearance were nothing to do with individual staff, who are victims of the airline’s collapse and are surely worried about their future. What an occasion to show a bit of compassion, not to mention fairness – the tickets were fairly won, there should have been no question of invalidating them later, least of all in a humiliating public manner. But no, no Flybe, no game. Exeter Chiefs, you should be ashamed of yourselves, and what a PR own goal.

Of course, if sanity and human sympathy return, it’s not too late to make amends and offer the same people an apology and tickets for another game, at no cost to you, there’s always space, and they might even add to your bar profits.

Yours in disappointment

David Richardson
