Flo Gets Fit Week 2: Work out until you (almost) pass out

So I’ve made it through my first proper week of fat-loss training, and just about made it to the other side! There were moments when I thought I was going to pass out and others when I thought I was going to puke, and I have never experienced post-exercise aches like I’ve had this week, but it feels amazing to know that I’ve done it!

I’ve completed two more training sessions this week, one resistance and circuit based, and another trip to the quay for more of the dreaded hill sprints.

The resistance session was made up of 2 circuits and a 10 minute boxing exercise. The circuits included a range of exercises such as push-ups, squats and lunges, and I used a 10kg VIPR and a 12kg kettlebell to add further resistance to the exercises. After doing 2 different circuits of 4 exercises for 45 seconds, we moved onto boxing. I’ve done a fair few body combat classes before, but punching to the pads made it that bit tougher! It was a great stress release though. Then I had to repeat the circuits, before a final exercise of a combination of kettlebell swings and burpees. This was the toughest part of the session and I think I would have given up if I didn't have Martin there talking me into 'one more burpee'. The next day, my legs were so stiff I could barely stand up and sit down!

My legs were still pretty painful on Monday, so I wasn’t expecting to be able to work very well. However, once I’d done a warm-up jog and stretches, and with the help of Martin telling me to keep going, I was absolutely fine and managed numerous hill sprints, push-ups, tricep dips and a few token runs up the Prospect Inn steps (ouch!). The session was proof of how much I’d progressed over the short space of a week, with increased lengths and repetitions of hill sprints in faster times.

It really helps to stick with an exercise and diet programme when you start to realise the results. Even after the first week of changing my eating habits, I felt less bloated and had more energy. Over the coming weeks I’m looking forward to looking more toned, and most importantly wearing this dress without Bridget Jones style ‘scary stomach holding in’ pants! Watch this space…
