Green Energy Awards Shortlist Announced

The shortlist for the coveted Green Energy Awards has been announced.

And Exeter City Council, Devon County Council, Devon and Cornwall Housing and Exeter's SunGift Energy all make an appearance.

The awards, now in their 12th year, are organised by Regen SW to celebrate the innovation and creative ingenuity that has put the south west at the forefront of the green energy revolution.

After months of blind tasting, deliberation and judging, the shortlist of finalists for the 2015 Food & Drink Devon Awards have been announced, with the winners revealed at a ceremony in Exeter on Monday 5th October. Entries from across the county included 144 products, 38 producers, 41 hospitality and 6 retail establishments judged by experts from the industry.

Trust marks ten years of green standard

A major local charity is marking a decade of environmental quality. Paignton Zoo Environmental Park has held the 14001 accreditation since 2005. Living Coasts in Torquay and Newquay Zoo in Cornwall, also parts of the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, which runs Paignton Zoo, have held the standard nearly as long.

The Trust’s Environmental Officer Pete Morgan said: “The ten year anniversary of our 14001 accreditation is quite a landmark. You have to improve each year, so we have been moving forward all that time. ISO14001 is an international standard with an external audit system...

THE Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust is hoping to follow up its win at the national HSJ Value in Healthcare Awards in 2014 with more success in the 2015 event.

A year after the Trust’s stroke therapy team tasted victory, the organisation has been shortlisted five times ahead of the 2015 awards ceremony this month.

The awards, led by flagship publication the Health Service Journal, recognise and reward outstanding efficiency and improvement by the NHS.

Exeter restaurant up for top curry award

Goa Spice Premier in Exeter has been shortlisted in the South West's Best Curry category of the English Curry Awards.

After months of fierce competition, over 15,000 nominations were received from the public across England, which guarantees to be an extremely tight contest. Judges will now visit shortlisted restaurants and takeaways from all over England who are battling it out to make the best curry in the country.

The Cowick Street restaurant will find out if it is a winner at a glamorous ceremony taking place in Manchester on Monday 31 August.

Jamil sets his sights on British Curry Awards

Jamil Miah, founder of Denley's Essence of India in Topsham, is hoping to garner some all-important support from fans of the popular Indian restaurant for the chance of winning a prestigious British Curry Award later this year. Having been shortlisted four times already, since 2009, Jamil says he is excited about the possibility of coming away with a grand prize this year.

Chunk's pies and pasties strike gold

Devon-based pasty and pie makers, Chunk, are celebrating after maintaining their crown as the UK’s tastiest pasty and pie suppliers by scooping a further four national foodie accolades, with four golds from Great Taste, bringing their awards total to 60.

The company, which employs 30 people and is based in Ottery St Mary, is well and truly rivaling its Cornish counterparts. The supremo pasty and pie maker wowed the judges at this year’s Great Taste 2015 event with its Steak, Chicken and Chorizo and Lamb Moroc pasties and its Chicken and Ham Squealer Pork Pie.

Devon County Council has been presented with the trophy and plaque for winning the Royal Town and Planning Institute (RTPI) South West Award for Planning Excellence 2015.

The Exe Estuary Trail was the overall winner of the RTPI SW Awards for Planning Excellence 2015.
