Not-for-profit sports awards now open for nominations

The Exeter Daily has joined forces with Active Devon and the Exeter Foundation to launch a county-wide sports awards event to promote all that is best about local sport in 2013.

The competition is open to those involved in sport throughout Devon and, unlike similar awards, will be not-for-profit with any money raised going to charity.

Active Devon is celebrating its tenth anniversary of hosting the awards and has partnered with the Exeter Foundation, a charity closely linked to the Exeter Chiefs, to stage a star-studded ceremony.

There are ten categories open to the general public to nominate against, plus the special Outstanding Contribution Award taken from category winners. There are also two categories open to individuals and organisations who deliver the Active Villages project and Sportivate programme. The nomination process is quick and easy with an editable PDF form to download and print or fill in online.  You can save as you go, giving you flexibility to take your time over your nomination.

Award categories include Sports Performer of the Year (amateur), Coach of the Year (senior), Volunteer of the Year (senior), Club of the Year (amateur), Team of the Year, Sports Performer of the Year (Professional), Coach of the Year (Youth), Volunteer of the Year (youth), Club of the Year (professional) and Contribution to Inclusive Sport.

Tony Rowe, chairman of the Exeter Foundation, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate all that is great about local sport and raise money for good causes at the same time.”

Active Devon Chief Executive Matt Evans said: “We are delighted to be working with The Exeter Foundation on this year’s awards.

“Joining forces with the charity was an obvious choice and we are confident that this association will take the event to the next level.”

The Devon Sports Awards will take place at Sandy Park, the home of the Exeter Chiefs, on Friday 26th April and are being supported by The Exeter Daily and Plymouth’s Sunday Independent newspaper. All of the profits will go to the Exeter Foundation, which grants money to a number of Devon charities.

Tickets are available for the evening at a cost of £65.00 each or a table of ten for £625.00, this includes a three-course meal, entertainment and access to the Awards Ceremony. Please email the booking form, available to download here, to enquiries@exeterfoundation.org.uk ensuring the payment slip is complete.

Nominations are now open and will close on 1st March 2013. For more details go to: www.activedevon.org/awards2013.
