She Ain't Heavy, She's My Mother
A new autobiographical show about a young man and his relationship with his mother’s Anorexia, performed solely by the author. The piece comprises of a recount of events through his eyes, explorations of the effects of his relationship with Anorexia, and his honest address of the question of what Anorexia is?
She Ain’t Heavy is an account of one specific experience, one specific eating disorder, and one young man who grew up in its shadow.
Written and performed by Simon Dean.
Blink
The brain. The control centre of everything the human body can do.
To breathe, blink, communicate; everything relies on the connection between the mind and the body.
What happens when this mind/body connection is flawed, broken, stopped? What happens when the mind wants to communicate, but the body cannot?
This dance theatre piece explores the complex mind/body connection, and lightly touches on the experiences of those involved with brain injuries. Do we sometimes take our working minds and bodies for granted?
To Pocket The Moon
Inspired by ideas of hyperreality, the piece aims to explore our inability to be satisfied with the present. In a society where consumerism and technology dominate our experience of reality we constantly strive for more: to be more happy, to have more success, to feel more alive.
Using puppetry, silhouettes, live sound and movement work, the ensemble follows the story of a young girl. Dissatisfied with her idyllic and flawless world she uncovers cracks in a 2D reality her childhood naivety had caused her to overlook.
