Television  is a powerful thing. TV quiz fans will undoubtedly need no introduction to Paul Sinha, one of the four “Chasers” (i.e. regular general knowledge experts) on ITV daytime quiz The Chase. Indeed, even without the distinctive white suit he wears on the programme, a show of hands early on at this Thursday evening comedy performance at the Exeter Phoenix made clear that he was far better known for The Chase than anything else.
In fact, Paul is an extremely experienced stand up and has been performing throughout the world for nineteen years. Drawing heavily on his own experiences on tour and of his status as a “micro celebrity” (as he describes himself), Paul was well received, despite receiving some drunken though good natured heckling from some parts of the audience, particularly towards the end of his ninety minute show. Whether discussing Twitter comments on the status of his neck, his memories of coming out to his parents, being insulted by Jim Davidson or his experiences as a doctor, Paul is clearly a likeable figure and spontaneously opened up the floor to an enjoyable Q and A session at the end.
One of only a number of comics to be appearing at the Exeter Phoenix during the LOL Comedy Festival, Paul Sinha clearly deserves to be at least as well known for his comedy as he is for his impressive capacity to retain general knowledge.
