Verdi’s Requiem Mass
North Devon’s resident symphony orchestra, the North Devon Sinfonia, teams up with West Buckland School Choir and the West Buckland Chorus on Saturday 28th June to perform Verdi’s Requiem Mass in Exeter Cathedral.
One of the most powerful works in the Romantic repertoire, Verdi’s Requiem runs the gamut of human emotion from the heart-rending “Lachrymosa” through the exuberant “Sanctus” to the famously terrifying “Dies Irae” (widely acknowledged as one of the loudest pieces of unamplified music ever written).
The Requiem is written for orchestra, two choirs and four soloists. For this performance in the majestic surroundings of Exeter Cathedral, NDS is joined by the choir of West Buckland School with the West Buckland Chorus – a choir specially created for the occasion.
The four soloists are: Catherine Hamilton, soprano; Alison Kettlewell, contralto; Iain Milne, tenor; and Roderick Hunt, bass.
• 7:30pm on Saturday, 28th June at the Cathedral, Exeter. Adults: £10.00 - £20.00, Under 18s: £5.00. All tickets are available online at http://verdirequiemconcertwbs.ticketsource.co.uk/
