Exeter Bach Society and Orchestra will perform JS Bach's sacred oratorio the St John Passion on Saturday 29 March in Exeter's Mint Methodist Church.

The St John Passion is a dramatic representation of the Passion as told in the Gospel of John. It was composed for the the Good Friday Vespers service of 1724 when Bach was responsible for church music at the St Thomas Church and the St Nicholas Church in Leipzig.

The Exeter Bach Society was founded in 1995 by Alderman Ramon Yeo, an accomplished organist and admirer of Bach’s many compositions. Since its formation the society has delved deep into Bach’s repertoire, hosting numerous performances of his Cantatas, Lutheran masses and instrumental works. There are currently around 50 active members of the Society.

In addition to choral performances the Exeter Bach Society organises instrumental recitals and talks throughout the season in many local venues including Exeter Cathedral.

Director of music is David Davies. Sololists include Richard Rowntree (Evangelist) and Juliet Curnow.
The performance will be sung in German.

Tickets: £15
