The Orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments was founded in 1962. In March 2012 they celebrated their 50th Anniversary.

In 2013 they visited the UK for the first time; this included a concert in Exeter. The orchestra also performed in Moscow where they were awarded the Laureate Diploma.

Pavel Sergeev is the current conductor of the Orchestra which includes children of 11-18 years old.

There are 35 members in the current orchestra and their repertoire includes classical, folk and modern melodies.

The 'Children' are aged between 11 and 18 years and play 'traditional' Russian Folk Instruments.  Balalaikas, Bayans, Domras, Clavichord Gusli, and Percussion.

Within the Orchestra there are two vocalists, plus soloists.

They perform with Exeter Childrens Orchestra in celebration of Exeter and Yaroslavl Twinning Silver Jubilee
