A collection of compositions…emotionally charged and dynamic…exploring the peaks and depths of our experiences. Expect soft and lyrical to explosive sounds; brought to life in jazz trio form.

Roz Harding saxophone, Mike Outram guitar and Jim Bashford drums launched project WAVE in February 2013 at St Ives Jazz Club. The club declared it a resounding success and WAVE continued to gig the South West. Recently project WAVE reached out to The Vortex Jazz Club, taking their sounds to London. Another outstanding night with a buzzing crowd wholeheartedly embracing this music.

‘What really impresses is the way the group works together as a single entity with a common musical purpose, a focus on the material itself. Roz’s tunes, such as Fifty-two fifty, If you could, Sun wish and Yesterday I was on time, have many angular rhythmic and harmonic moments but remain accessible to listeners. The transition from composed to improvised sections was often seamless and the whole thing sounded very fresh and imaginative, free from the bebop clichés and Trane-isms which – liberating though they are – can actually straightjacket many a fine player. The Vortex crowd loved it and Wave’s appearance here (only their fifth gig) was an unqualified success. Their future looks exciting.’ Martin King – Smiths Academy Informer

Tonight’s performance will include some brand new compositions aired here for the first time plus support from Exeter College Music Academy ensemble Jambassadors: directed by Roz Harding. If you came to Jazz Toast, you’ll know where it’s at! Youth Music at it’s most vibrant – featuring original compositions and arrangements from these superb young musicians.
