On Saturday 4 October at 7.30pm a concert of glorious music for choir and brass is to take place in the Methodist Church in Sidwell Street.

The music to be performed is by Venetian composers from the 16th– 17th centuries, including  Gabrieli, Schutz and Monteverdi.

In true Venetian fashion, the different ‘choirs’ of brass instruments and voices will be positioned at various points in the church, making the most of the wonderful gallery and staircases and the fantastic acoustic.

Indeed the church will become Exeter’s equivalent to St. Mark’s Basilica, Venice!

A 20-strong brass ensemble will be playing in various combinations under the direction of Brian Moore, and a hand-picked choir of 28 local singers will be conducted by Tina Guthrie.

Highlights will include two movements from Monteverdi’s ‘Vespers’ of 1610, and Gabrieli’s wonderful work for brass and voices ‘In Ecclesiis’.

The concert is a fundraising event in support of Hospiscare and tickets, priced £10 each (18’s and under free) will be available on the door or from Hospiscare shops in Exeter and Topsham.
