Oxfam Exeter to Exmouth Kayak Rally
The fourth annual Oxfam Exeter to Exmouth Kayak Rally will take place on Saturday 5 July offering an opportunity for all paddlers, of all ages and capabilities, to take up an enjoyable or challenging supervised family day out for a worthy cause.
With a growing number of participants entering each year, it is hoped to surpass the record set last year of 163 paddlers in 109 craft, raising £1400 for Oxfam. The 2013 event saw representation from all over the South West, including a contingent from The Nags Head at Lyme Regis. But the highlight was the Exeter Execalibre Club Dragon Boat with a crew of 18 drumming its way through the flotilla of kayaks and canoes. Enquiries have since been received from other dragon boat clubs who wish to compete with the Exeter Club at this summer’s event.
With high tide at 1200hrs, there will a later start this year setting off from Exeter basin between 0930 and 1030hrs to reach the canal end at The Turf to enjoy light refreshments before joining the river at 1230hrs. The finish at Exe Sailing Club is expected between 1300 and 1400hrs, where a team of volunteers and staff will be on hand to supply weary paddlers and their families and friends with barbeque food and other delights.
There will be the customary entrance fee of £10 per craft or sponsorship with a dedicated online facility planned. Entry forms and details will be posted on the Exe Sailing Club website nearer the event.
Spectators free.
