The Older Persons Information Day event to be held on Friday 28th September between 10am and 4pm in Budleigh Salterton Public Hall, Station Road, EX9 6RJ, is the 5th Older Persons Day event to be held in the town in recent years. Organised by Home Instead Senior Care, the event brings together under one roof, a wide range of service organisations local and national, that are involved in supporting older people, carers and their families.

Mark McGlade, Managing Director of Home Instead Senior Care – Exeter & East Devon, who organises the annual event, said

“Health, Care and support issues can often be crisis decisions for the elderly and their families. After seeing many older people struggle to find the right support and with families not knowing where to go to get the help they need, we organised the first Older Persons Day event in 2012 to bring together some leading quality health, care, legal , financial and support services from across the region to host tables and exhibition stands offering support and signposting for the general public”

At this year’s event the Older Persons’ Day will include participation from over 35 organisations including :

-Devon NHS Partnership Trust – Depression & Anxiety Service

-Hospiscare

-Drink Wise Age Well

-Green Tree Court (Care Home)

-Macular Support Group

-Exmouth Talking Newspaper

-Devon & Somerset Trading Standards

-South West Ambulance Service

-East Devon Home Safeguard

-Living & Lifestyle Mobility

-Somerset & Devon Fire Service

-Home Instead Senior Care

Plus others

Exeter University Medical School Research teams will also be available to give information on latest research in Alzheimer’s Disease and other conditions.

The 2018 event will also incorporate the Devon & Cornwall Police Crime & Safety Roadshow, with information tables on Internet Safety and Scam Awareness, Fire Safety, Crime Prevention, Trading Standards Property Marking, Environmental Health and the Office of the Police Commissioner.

In addition to the Information Tables in the Public Hall, there will be Talks and Presentations from a number of providers in The Church on the Green, directly opposite the Public Hall between 10am and 4.00pm. Programme to be finalised but to include Dementia Friends Workshop, Update on Budleigh Salterton Hospital Hub, Exeter University Medical Research, Eat Well Drink Wise, Mental Health

East Devon Member of Parliament, Sir Hugo Swire, KCMG, MP is planning to attend the event also.
