Lunchtime Bite: Cathedral and Castle

Wednesday 18th November 2015, 13.00-14.00

"Church and State in Exeter at the Norman Conquest"
with Professor Robert Higham, University of Exeter

The Norman Conquest has recently been much in our thoughts in Exeter. In July 2014 we celebrated the foundation of the new Norman Cathedral.

A few years ago, excavations in the Norman castle produced new evidence, raising important questions about the city and late Saxon kings.

This talk examines ecclesiastical and secular authority in Exeter on either side of the Conquest, exploring the impact of the new Norman regime in what was one of England’s major cities.

This event will take place in either the Chapter House or Pearson Education Centre at Exeter Cathedral. Look out for signage on the day.
