Image of information about official studio opening

Join local textile artist Alison Whateley to celebrate the official opening of her very first studio.

Located in beautiful farmland at 5 Fortescue Court, Thorverton EX5 5JN, Alison will be throwing open the doors of her studio on 18 June from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Alison creates contemporary art inspired by the coast and countryside. With no formal training, she took up free motion embroidery in 2012 and over time has developed her own unique style of textile art, often using organza to give a watercolour feel to her work.

Sometimes inspired by photographs, but more often working directly from her imagination, each piece of art evolves as it is created. Alison prefers not to use a sketchbook, instead allowing her creativity to guide her as each piece develops.

Colour and texture are big influences for her and where possible she prefers to source up-cycled textiles for their variety and individuality. She loves the idea that these materials can be given a new purpose, rather than being discarded, and can be appreciated in a different way for many more years to come.

As well as original art her range also includes giclee fine-art prints, greeting cards and textile art kits.

Come and enjoy a piece of cake and a glass of prosecco while you meet the artist and browse her artwork. You can also learn about her popular workshops, where she enjoys teaching and inspiring others.
