Visit the Dartmoor Conservation Garden on Sunday 6 September 2015 and enjoy a fascinating FREE mini moss and lichen safari with Jen Howard, Education Officer with Plantlife, the UK’s leading wild plant conservation charity.

Mosses are very small plants which absorb moisture through their leaves. They act like sponges and can absorb huge amounts of water. Lichens are made up of a mutual relationship between a fungus and an alga. The fungus forms the main body of the lichen providing protection for the alga while the alga manufactures food using the sun's energy.

The Dartmoor Conservation Garden is in the middle of Princetown, wild-planted with a range of Dartmoor’s native plants in typical habitats, sited in the Jack Wigmore Garden behind the National Park Visitor Centre.

Come along anytime between 11 am and 3 pm to discover more about these miniature life-forms. The event is suitable for families and there is no need to book.

The Dartmoor Conservation Garden is a project of the Dartmoor Preservation Association supported by grant funding from the Dartmoor National Park Your Dartmoor Fund.
