Blood Cells: Internationally Acclaimed British Film Comes to Exeter

Blood Cells—a film starring Barry Ward (Ken Loach’s Jimmy’s Hall) that premiered at the Venice Film Festival and will have its UK premiere in competition at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival—is coming to the Exeter City Picturehouse on Tuesday 30 June.

Blood Cells follows the perilous journey home of Adam (Ward), a young man whose life fell apart when the Foot and Mouth epidemic of 2001 decimated his family’s farm. The only British film ever to be directly funded by the Venice Biennale, Blood Cells was widely praised at its international premiere. Shot on the fringes of England and Wales, the film melds established performers including Barry Ward, Chloe Pirrie (Paulo Sorrentino Cannes’ 2015 Youth; Shell; Black Mirror) Francis Magee (Brighton Rock; Cemetery Junction) and lauded young playwright, theatre and film actress Hayley Squires (Vera, Vera, Vera Royal Court; As Good A Time as Any – Peter Gill, Call The Midwife) with local people and performers in both scripted and improvised scenes.
