Working Lives in Exeter – World of Work 1914-18
On Saturday 9 August a free event is being held in the Exeter Phoenix which explores the working lives of local people during World War One.
The event, called World of Work – Working Lives in Exeter 1914-18, is the idea of local trade unions. They have linked up with local history groups and community organisations to put on a day of talks, workshops, exhibitions and more which will give an insight into the impact the war had on people across Exeter and Devon.
There will be talks on subjects such as the history of the Met Office, the Stoke Cannon Strike, what working lives were like in 1914 and more.
There will also be exhibitions and a chance to learn about how to research family and workplace history.
