Exeter City Council has today announced it will be submitting an expression of interest (EOI) for the prestigious UK City of Culture title. 

The City of Culture bid follows the culmination of five months extensive engagement and consultation with artists, creatives, cultural organisations and residents to shape the council’s commissioned new five-year Cultural Strategy for Exeter.

Sixth form students graduate from Pathways to Law

A group of high achieving sixth form students from Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, have graduated from a national project which aims to raise aspirations and the confidence of young people to pursue a career in law.

Twenty six students from the region participated in the University of Exeter strand of the Pathways to Law programme. Building destroyed by fire near Exeter Airport

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received calls to reports of a derelict building on fire on the Old A30 adjacent to Exeter Airport at 7.41pm yesterday (Sat).

One fire appliance from Middlemoor, one from Danes Castle and one from Ottery St Mary were dispatched along with the water carrier from Torquay.

Upon arrival crews confirmed one derelict agriculture building measuring 30M x 10M well alight and requested an additional fire appliance for water and manpower, this was mobilised from Danes Castle. Crews set to work to extinguish the fire using two main jets....

Parents call for revamp of kids menus

New research from restaurant booking platform, Bookatable.co.uk, reveals that the majority of British parents (78 per cent) believe there are a lack of food options offered to their children at restaurants, with the same unhealthy options like chicken nuggets and pizza continuing to appear on most children’s menus.

According to the findings, 59 per cent of British parents said they thought the food offered to kids in restaurants is unhealthy, dull and needs to be re-imagined.

Man dies after fall from window in Exeter

A 39-year old man has died following a fall from a flat window in Exeter on Friday 10th July.

Police attended St James Road, Exeter following concerns for a man in one of the properties.

Police remained outside the property and were able to engage in discussions with the man, who was communicating from the third floor flat window.

Whilst police were at the scene and in discussions with the man, it appears that he fell from the window of the flat and suffered a serious head injury.

Customer Service Centre celebrates 10 years

Exeter City Council's Customer Service Centre (CSC) celebrates its 10th Birthday on Saturday.

The 'one-stop shop' in Paris Street first opened its doors to the public on 11 July 2005.

Previously there were a number of departmental reception desks throughout the Civic Centre. The CSC brought those together and since opening, has seen more than 500,000 people come through its doors and dealt with over 1 million calls.

Exeter Cost Consultants, Haldons Ltd, handed-over a new purpose built, three-storey Doctors Surgery with a construction value of around £1.4m.

The new 826 sq. metres, purpose-built, state-of-the-art surgery located in Plymouth which meets the NHS’ latest clinical guidelines, was built by Design & Build contractor Dawnus Construction Holdings Limited of Topsham.
