Exeter announces its bid to become the UK’s City of Culture in 2029 

Exeter City Council has today announced it will be submitting an expression of interest (EOI) for the prestigious UK City of Culture title. 

The City of Culture bid follows the culmination of five months extensive engagement and consultation with artists, creatives, cultural organisations and residents to shape the council’s commissioned new five-year Cultural Strategy for Exeter.

The city dubbed too posh to have an Old Kent Road on its own official Monopoly board, launched today (Wednesday 14 October), is to be honoured with TWO "Mayfairs".

Members of the East Devon District Council Conservative Group were treated to a guided tour of Exmouth’s RNLI station on Saturday (10 October), including an in-depth look at the South West’s first Shannon class lifeboat – the R and J Welburn. The new role, created by Exeter Cultural Partnership and hosted by the University of Exeter, offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to implement a strategy that will fulfil the city’s long term ambition of becoming a leading cultural destination.

£6m funding boost for local sport

A rowing club for 80-year-olds, a sailing project based in a canal in central London and a boxing club that has cut village crime are just a few of the 91 local schemes that are looking forward to making the most of a £6,039,499 million National Lottery funding boost.

Starcross and Cockwood tidal defence scheme public exhibition

The Environment Agency is holding a public exhibition on Friday 16 October 2015 to provide people with more information about the Starcross and Cockwood tidal defence scheme.

The Environment Agency is currently investigating options to manage the risk of tidal flooding at the coastal villages of Starcross and Cockwood on the Exe Estuary. The scheme is estimated to reduce flood risk to over 600 properties. It was accelerated as part of the March 2015 Budget announcement regarding England’s 6-year flood defence programme.
