Exeter announces its bid to become the UK’s City of Culture in 2029 

Exeter City Council has today announced it will be submitting an expression of interest (EOI) for the prestigious UK City of Culture title. 

The City of Culture bid follows the culmination of five months extensive engagement and consultation with artists, creatives, cultural organisations and residents to shape the council’s commissioned new five-year Cultural Strategy for Exeter.

Exeter-based Flybe back in profit

Flybe today announced revenue growth, up £31.8 million to £339.6m.

The Exeter-based firm made a £22.9m profit after reporting a £3.3m loss a year ago.

The company said it had completed the first three chapters of its four part transformation: relaunching the business witht a stronger balance sheet, modernising its brand and handling its major legacy issues while returning to growth. It is now focused on profitable growth.

Tesco to improve support to Armed Services

Tesco will significantly improve the support it offers war veterans and reservists, the retailer announced today.

Tesco has a proud record of supporting the Armed Forces dating right back to founder Jack Cohen, who set Tesco up with his demob money after serving in the First World War. Generous friends, family and strangers have raised an incredible £62,000 for a dying Exeter mum - in a matter of weeks.

Jo Smith is currently travelling with her best friend Sarah Lacey to Arizona by sea and land in a desperate bid to find a cure for her two terminal conditions.

She needs £70,000 for the trip and her treatment and her YOUCARING site is now close to the target.

Record bookings for Exeter's Southgate

A popular city hotel is experiencing a record number of bookings from across Devon this Christmas.

The Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel will be hosting a number of party nights over the Christmas period with a Roaring 20’s theme.

Currently, the hotel is expecting over 3,500 guests, almost double the amount of guests who attended the Moulin Rouge themed parties last year.
