Applications for arts grants open this week

Arts groups, organisations and artists in Exeter are being invited to apply for grants from the City Council.

Exeter City Council’s Arts Annual Core and Project Grant Fund for 2016/17 will be open for application from Tuesday (1 December).

The funds are available to provide annual core support or one off projects to Exeter based organisations in 2016/17 that aim to benefit residents of Exeter or improve access to the arts and increase participation in arts activity by all of Exeter’s diverse communities

FabLab Devon, in association with FabLab Plymouth at Plymouth College of Art, is offering a range of free FabLab digital fabrication laboratory workshops to members of the public, in FabLab Devon, which is based at Exeter Library, beginning on Monday 30 November.

ECOE share offer reaches £390,000

The Exeter Community Energy Share Offer, which has been running since November 7th, closed on Thursday, having reached an astonishing investment figure of £390,000.

ECOE have been raising funds via a community share offer to install solar panels on 9 community and commercial buildings across Exeter and East Devon. Ladram Bay Holiday Park has won a silver award in the Holiday Park and Holiday Village category of the Visit Devon Tourism Awards 2015.

Fire-risk tumble dryers safety warning

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service is advising homeowners to check their tumble dryers after Indesit release a warning ‘that they may pose a fire risk.’

The three brands are Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda and include both condenser and vented dryers, which have been marketed over the last 11 years.

It has been identified that in "rare" cases a build-up of lint can come into contact with the dryer's heating element, which could pose a fire risk, resulting in users being warned not to leave their driers unattended and to clean fluff from the filter after each use....

Police in Exeter are so pleased with the results of Operation Slug that they are hoping to expand the operation.

The scheme has seen a 90% reduction in crime and allotment thefts using Smartwater, an invisible property-marking solution.

Launched across 26 of the city’s allotment sites, Op Slug has prevented burglaries to sheds and outbuildings. 1300 allotment holders have been protected, and their expensive garden tools from being stolen.
