Exeter Racecourse hosted its first networking event of the year with a sell-out gathering that was buzzing with enthusiasm, as businesses from across the region came together full of optimism for the year ahead. Delegates enjoyed a productive morning of networking, followed by afternoon racing.

Skydivers wanted for 10,000ft tandem skydive

HeartSWell South West is looking for people to take to the sky and jump 10,000ft from a plane to raise money for heart patients and lifesaving equipment in the Westcountry. The 10,000ft tandem skydive can be completed in several different locations across the UK, the nearest centre being the Honiton Dropzone in Devon. A spectacular dancing dragon, a stunning firework display and traditional Chinese crafts, food and games all featured at the University of Exeter’s celebration of Chinese New Year.

Staff, students and the general public from across the world welcomed in 2016, the Year of the Monkey. In China, it is known as the "Spring Festival" and marks the end of the winter season. Gene could help identify psychosis risk in cannabis users

Researchers at the University of Exeter and UCL (University College London) have identified a gene which can be used to predict how susceptible a young person is to the mind-altering effects of smoking cannabis. The finding could help identify otherwise healthy users who are most at risk of developing psychosis.

Exeter Chiefs newcomer Lachlan Turner says he's more than happy to be thrown in at the deep end after he today sealed a move to the Aviva Premiership club.

The Australian international touched down at Sandy Park this morning to begin a two-and-a-half year deal with Rob Baxter's high-flying outfit.

Bridge Road overnight closures warning

The first overnight closures of the Bridge Road widening scheme will take place next week.

The night-time road closures will enable site staff to safely establish the necessary traffic management to reduce the road to one lane each way.

Bridge Road will be closed from 10pm on Monday (22 February) and will re-open at 5am the following morning (Tuesday 23 February) with one lane open in each direction.

To complete the traffic management, the road will then close again at 10pm on Tuesday (23 February), re-opening at 5am the next day (Wednesday 24 February).

Police are seeking this careless driver who ploughed into a line of traffic cones, leading to a pile-up on the A38 in Plymouth.

The hit-and-run driver was caught on camera striking the traffic cone barrier at road works near Marsh Mills. Their actions resulted in a three-vehicle collision further back on the carriageway - but fortunately no-one was seriously hurt.

Police have now released the footage in an attempt to trace the driver who left the scene without calling for help.

Devon accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards has once again been recognised for its outstanding support to the Armed Forces Community.
