A father-of-two from Exeter, Henry already had a broad awareness of the charity when he met Westbank’s Head of Carers Services, Andy Hood, at a networking event a few years ago. The average council in the South West will need to pay a staggering £19.4 million a year to the government to fund their flagship Right to Buy extension, new research by Shelter reveals today.

The policy, now being put through parliament as part of the government’s Housing and Planning Bill, would force local authorities to sell off a proportion of their council houses on the open market once they become vacant. The money would then be used to fund discounts of up to £100,000 for housing association tenants taking up the Right to Buy.

Police continue to dig for clues at home of serial killer Fred West's friends

Police are continuing to investigate the garden at the former home of a paedophile couple, who knew serial killers Fred and Rose West.

Excavations began on Tuesday 3 May in the rear garden of a bungalow in Bradnich, near Cullompton, following historic intelligence linked to the former occupants of the council-owned property, David and Pauline Williams.

Investigations are continuing today and are expected to last until Friday 6 May at the earliest.

Exeter’s St James’ Park Station platform garden now has lavender, rosemary, thyme and wildflowers to encourage bees and butterflies and make the station more attractive for rail passengers on the Avocet Line from Exeter to Exmouth.

Funding boost gives Devon’s businesses more flex appeal

Devon’s small businesses will receive a welcome boost as Devon County Council announces plans to expand the county’s network of flexible working spaces.

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has confirmed that both Byron McGuigan and Chrysander Botha are to leave the Aviva Premiership club at the end of the season.

Baxter confirmed the Namibian duo would be on their way soon, but said he did not know where they would be playing their rugby next season.

'Fast-track' BHS investigation ordered

An immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding BHS going into administration has been ordered by the Business Secretary Sajid Javid.

Mr Javid has instructed the Insolvency Service to fast-track its investigation, which will also specifically consider the extent to which the conduct of the directors of BHS led to its insolvency.
