The Devon-wide health and wellbeing charity, Westbank Community Health and Care, is delighted to welcome lawyer Henry Cross as its newest Trustee. Henry is a Senior Associate at Michelmores, specialising in employment law.

A father-of-two from Exeter, Henry already had a broad awareness of the charity when he met Westbank’s Head of Carers Services, Andy Hood, at a networking event a few years ago. Site managers working for local housebuilder Barratt Developments, which includes Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, have scooped two prestigious awards in a national competition to find the best-run building sites in Britain.

Researchers from the University of Exeter have pioneered an innovative new technique to make flexible screens more effective and efficient.

A team of Engineers and Physicists from Exeter have discovered that GraphExeter – a material adapted from the ‘wonder material’ graphene - can substantially improve the effectiveness of large, flat, flexible lighting.

Welfare reforms lead to more benefit enquiries

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, today publishes its advice trend statistics for the period 1 April – 31 May 2016.

The charity has helped 38% more people with their advice and information when compared to the same period in 2015.

The advice trends over the period were as follows:

Welfare benefits

Overall, the charity dealt with 47.8% more welfare benefit enquiries. The main increases being:

• 60.9% about employment and support allowance • 44.2% about tax credits • 42.5% about disability benefits (PIP/DLA) • 32.9% about housing...

Stagecoach South West has announced today that it will be offering free bus travel to Armed Forces personnel to honour the 19240 Shrouds of the Somme commemoration.

Man charged with Devon murder

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a 30-year-old woman in Paignton on Thursday 23 June 2016.

Toryino Williams, 22, of Winner Street, Paignton, has been charged with the murder of Agnieszka Malgorzata Szymura.

He appeared before Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 25 June and was remanded in custody to appear at Exeter Crown Court on Monday 27 June.

Agnieszka’s next of kin has been informed.
