Devon launches new wave of funded training to power the region’s future

Devon County Council has officially launched the sixth year of its flagship Train4Tomorrow Skills Bootcamps programme, offering over 2,000 adults in the region a unique opportunity to upskill or retrain for in-demand jobs.

Backed by government funding as part of the national Skills for Life initiative, this latest wave of Train4Tomorrow will deliver high-quality, employer-designed training across key growth sectors; from construction trade skills, HGV driving, EV charger installation, AI and data skills and early years education.

Exeter Library gears up to support start-ups and entrepreneurs

Businesses in Exeter can now get extra support from Exeter Library following its launch as an Intellectual Property (IP) Centre. The library is the latest to join the UK’s network of Patent Libraries (PatLibs), set up by the Government in order to provide assistance on a variety of Intellectual Property Rights. Academy youngster Harry Strong hopes to use the Anglo-Welsh Cup as the perfect ‘stepping stone’ to help develop his career at Exeter Chiefs.

Ottery St Mary's under 8 football team is now sporting a brand new strip, courtesy of ethical restaurant, Rusty Pig.

The new kit features the distinctive restaurant logo, an upside-down pig.

Renewable energy solutions firm acquires local insulation company

Renewable technology provider, Low Carbon Exchange (LCX) has acquired Cullompton based company, Diamond Bead. Specialising in Cavity Wall Insulation (CWI), the new acquisition will add to the range of services that LCX now provide across the UK: from Cornwall to Gloucester, Kent to London and as far north as East Anglia.

Chiefs' Jack Clarke shortlisted for national award

A young man from Exeter Chiefs’ HITZ programme has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

Jack Clarke is one of three finalists shortlisted for the HITZ Community Impact award supported by Wooden Spoon. This award will be presented at the HITZ Awards on 28 November.

The Community Impact Award is all about the time and commitment given by a HITZ young person through volunteering.

Chance to quiz councillors on key city issues

People in Exeter are being given the chance to quiz councillors on any key issues for the city.

Exeter residents are invited to put forward questions to members of the joint County and City Councils' Exeter Board, at their next meeting on Monday 21 November at 5:30pm at the Civic Centre in Paris Street. The Board allocates 15 minutes for their ‘open forum’, with 3 minutes per speaker, with a maximum of 3 - 4 speakers to allow time for discussion.

Astronaut, physician and adventurer Dr Michael Barratt has signed up to support the Extreme Medicine teaching team, which will help train doctors on how to practice high-quality Medicine, even in space.

People are being invited to share their memories of the Royal Clarence Hotel by writing in a book of remembrance at Exeter Guildhall.
