Exeter announces its bid to become the UK’s City of Culture in 2029 

Exeter City Council has today announced it will be submitting an expression of interest (EOI) for the prestigious UK City of Culture title. 

The City of Culture bid follows the culmination of five months extensive engagement and consultation with artists, creatives, cultural organisations and residents to shape the council’s commissioned new five-year Cultural Strategy for Exeter.

Top 40 accountants Bishop Fleming have announced the appointment of Ian Smith as Chair with effect from 1 January 2017. He succeeds Jerry O'Sullivan who, after six years, has finished his term as Chair within the firm.

Ian Smith is a Corporate and Business Services Partner who until accepting this role was Partner in Charge of the Worcester office of Bishop Fleming. With the possibility of snow forecast in the coming days, snow warden volunteers across Devon are prepared and ready should they be called upon this winter.

More than 250,000 people lined the county’s streets and roads to watch the Devon Stage of the Tour of Britain last September according to an independent report.

It reveals that despite the wet weather the Devon Stage on Friday 9 September 2016, hosted by Devon County Council and supported by Teignbridge District Council, East Devon District Council and Dartmoor National Park, attracted more spectators than the previous 2014 stage and generated more than £4.26 million for Devon’s economy.

Stagecoach has announced that the South West Falcon carried its 150,000th passenger - less than a year since the launch of the 24/7 coach service.

Fancy dress raises £1,245 for Devon Air Ambulance

After a vote from all of the staff at Bishop Fleming's Exeter office to decide on the Partners attire for the fancy dress Christmas party, the winner was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with the proviso that Partner and Head of Tax, Andrew Browne became Snow White for the evening.

Andrew took a bit of convincing and therefore as an incentive to become Snow White for one night only, decided to use the opportunity to raise funds for Devon Air Ambulance.

A total of £1,245 was raised for the charity showing that not all Christmas parties need to be completely self-indulgent....

£100,000 appeal to plug Killerton's leaking roof

Killerton House near Exeter, looked after by the National Trust, has launched a major fundraising campaign to plug the holes in its leaking roof.

£100,000 is needed to help pay for work due to start in late February which will prevent the threat of water damage to the much loved house and collection, which includes a unique Trust fashion collection.
