Citizens Advice Exeter concerned over rise in welfare benefit enquiries

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, has released its latest advice trend statistics.

In the period 1 April 2016 – 28 February 2017 the charity helped 7267 people directly with advice and information. The advice trends over the period were as follows:

Welfare benefits Overall, the charity dealt with 10.3% more welfare benefit enquiries. The main increases being:

• 20.7% increase about disability benefits (PIP/DLA) • 12.4% increase about employment and support allowance • 2.6% increase about attendance allowance

Police appeal after Kingsteignton hit and run

Police are urgently appealing for witnesses to a serious road traffic collision in Kingsteignton on Saturday 8th April in which a pedestrian received life threatening injuries having been struck by a vehicle which left the scene.

The collision happened in Gestridge Road at around 12.50am when a 25 year old man from Kingsteignton was struck by a small silver car, possibly a darker colour, which was traveling in the direction of Fore Street.

Morgan Sindall, the construction and infrastructure company, is making key progress on a project to deliver two residential apartment blocks in Exeter. The £1.7 million project is being delivered for a locally based investor and is well underway. SW businesses enjoy another month of growth in March

South West businesses experienced another solid month of growth during March, with demand for goods and services rising and job creation outstripping the UK average, according to the latest Lloyds Bank UK Regional PMI survey.

The South West PMI® fell marginally to 53.4 in March, down from 53.5 in February. A PMI reading above 50 signifies growth in business activity.

Data from March showed that new business orders expanded in the region, resulting in the creation of new jobs, and business confidence towards growth prospects rose to a ten-month high.

Bridge Road in Exeter closed this weekend

Bridge Road in Exeter will be closed from 10pm on Friday 7 April until 5am on Monday 10 April for ongoing widening improvements.

The closure is needed to enable the assembly of steelwork on Countess Wear Bridge, and installation of the first few spans of a new pedestrian and cycle bridge which runs alongside the Grade II Listed structure. The remaining spans will then be lifted into place in the coming weeks.

The diversion route will be signed via Topsham Road, Alphington Road, Marsh Barton and the A379. Details of the diversion route are available here .
