Network Plus Envolve opens Exeter Science Park office to support major water programme

Network Plus Envolve, a joint venture between Network Plus and Envolve Infrastructure , has established new offices at Exeter Science Park to support the delivery of a new framework with South West Water.

Approximately 15 engineers, project managers and technical specialists will be based at Envolve’s new offices within the George Parker Bidder Building - a net-zero carbon facility at Exeter Science Park. The team is expected to grow significantly, potentially doubling within the next 12 to 18 months.

Riverside Leisure Centre pool may be closed until September 2018

Exeter City Council has revealed more details about the work being carried out to assess the full extent of fire damage at the city’s Riverside Leisure Centre. The task of assessing damage to the roof caused by the fire on February 21 is complex and time consuming, and the operator cannot reopen the pool and health suite until it is safe and appropriate to do so. A report following a full structural assessment of the roof is expected to be completed by the end of August. Lapford Parish Council Awarded £2,500 from Calor to Instate Fibre Optic Broadband Access

Lapford Parish Council is celebrating after being awarded a grant of £2,500 by energy provider Calor, to install fibre optic broadband access to around 60% of the properties in Lapford Village, including the primary school. The grant is part of Calor’s Rural Community Fund.

Calor’s Rural Community Fund asked local organisations to apply for funding for rural community projects, with winners eligible to receive a grant of up to £5,000.

A clock in bits was the surprise performer at the recent Chilcotts Auctioneers Fine Arts, Antiques and Collectors Items sale in Honiton.

The clock, more correctly known as a chronometer, was made by important clock makers ‘Kelvin, White and Hutton’. It came from a Mid-Devon family, and was a treasured family heirloom - until they decided to restore it.

The North Devon Link Road is to undergo a major £5 million upgrade of its road surface and drainage, Transport Minister Jesse Norman has announced.

Sections of the A361 will be improved, following Devon County Council’s successful bid for Challenge Funding. The streets of Exeter are set to become safer following the introduction of a new scheme aimed at reducing antisocial behaviour (ASB).

The Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) - approved by the City Council last year, will help the police deal with nuisances or problems detrimental to people’s quality of life. Any money raised through fines will be used to help fund community schemes.

Police praise public resposnse to knife amnesty

Over 400 knives were handed in to police during a knife amnesty last week (I7 – 23 July, 19 – 26 in Plymouth)

This is twice as many as were surrendered during the last week-long police knife amnesty, held in November of last year.

All of these knives are out of circulation and no longer at risk of falling into the wrong hands. All of the knives and bladed items will be destroyed.

Figures from Cornwall, where knives could be handed in at police enquiry offices in Camborne, Bodmin, St Austell and Truro, show that 68 items were handed in.
