Teignmouth flood defence scheme works complete

Work on Teignmouth’s flood defence scheme is now complete, helping protect people, homes and businesses from flooding for years to come.

The project started in February and focused on the repair, renewal and strengthening of the sea defence structure at the Point. Additional essential work was then carried out to tackle erosion found under the sea wall during the works.

Bus Workers Union RMT has suspended its planned strike action across Devon.

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said: “The union is able to confirm that new pay proposals have been tabled by management following intense negotiations.

Pheasant roadkill peaks in autumn and late winter

Chickens’ motives for crossing the road are often questioned – but pheasants should probably avoid it altogether, new research suggests.

Researchers from the universities of Exeter and Cardiff compared roadkill figures from the 1960s and 2010s – before and after the start of mass release programmes of pheasants for shooting – and found pheasants remain disproportionately likely to be run over compared to other birds.

Award-winning charcuterie company, Good Game, has been awarded £40k of EU funding, matched by a further £40k investment of their own as part of a growth strategy.

Local Vauxhall retailer, Eden Motor Group, recently brewed up a massive £15,200 for Macmillan Cancer Support after taking part in the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’. With only two months to go before the completion of a £50 million project to refurbish over 300 pylons spanning 100 km between Cornwall and Devon, the leader of Devon County Council visited one of the most complex locations for equipment replacement – Trago Mills, near Exeter.
