Great South West Regional Roadshow series kicks off with Devon business leaders backing strong role for region on national stage

Business leaders and regional stakeholders convened at the Devon Regional Roadshow to discuss economic priorities and making the case on the national stage.

The Great South West Pan-Regional Partnership launched its series of Regional Roadshows with an event in Paignton on 12 June, in partnership with the Devon & Plymouth Chamber of Commerce.

Local business leaders had the opportunity to identify the key issues which need to be advanced with the incoming Government following the General Election on 4 July.

Volunteer Inn curries help Western Storm to success

The Volunteer Inn in Ottery St Mary was thrilled to learn the Western Storm Twenty20 team won the Women’s Super League Finals.

The pub had been delivering catering to the team whilst they were training at Exeter University’s Topsham Sports Ground over the summer.

Volunteer landlady and head cook Jacqui Down carried out a trial meal for the team in June and started the contract in July.

The summer turned out just fine for three employees at The Family Law Company who were all promoted.

Fiona Wadey, who joined the company in 2012, becomes Senior Associate Solicitor. Fiona joined the company in 2012 and is a Senior Associate Solicitor. A specialist in divorce and finances, Fiona also has expertise in pre-nuptial and cohabitation agreements and the issues faced by growing numbers of unmarried couples. Devon company seals deal to sell clothing range to Japan

A Devon clothes manufacturer has secured a new contract to export its range to Japan with the support of Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking. Fortis Clothing, which was established in Axminster in 1997, has seen an increase in demand for its luxury outdoor wear from a number of international markets in the past year. The new contract will see three Japanese fashion retailers stock its range of coats, trousers, bags and vests for three years. £1 million programme to help social enterprises

A £1 million programme to help social enterprises has been launched in the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (HotSW LEP) area. Crowd funding venture to make kids' dreams come true

A staggering £180,000 has been raised for a nationwide crowd funding project which aims to help children’s dreams into reality – with more than £100,000 pledged for the ‘Like to be’ initiative in the past month alone.

Clyst Honiton Tunnel closed for two weeks

Clyst Honiton Tunnel will be closed for two weeks from Monday 11 to Sunday 24 September for a lighting upgrade.

Currently the tunnel uses 238, mostly 400watt, lights – they will be replaced with 94 263watt LED lights.

The new lights will enable Devon County Council to make large energy savings.

It is estimated that in just four years the cost of installation will be offset by the saving in energy costs.
