Local small businesses across the South West are gearing up to take their share of a much-needed Christmas boost, as new data predicts the UK could spend £5.3 billion with small firms over the festive period, delivering critical end-of-year gains for this vital segment of the economy.

Road users are being encouraged to plan their journeys into and around Exeter on Thursday 10 May when the new IKEA store opens to the public.

Increased traffic volumes are anticipated on the major routes into the city, especially on the M5 at Junction 30 Sandygate roundabout and the A379 leading to the new store. Additional traffic may potentially lead to disruption and longer than average delays in the area surrounding the new store.

Duncan Lyster, a fourth year physics student at the University of Exeter, UK, has founded his own hand-crafted, wooden surfboard company.

Residents at Lucerne House care home in Exeter, are celebrating after it performed strongly in a nationwide survey of care home residents and their family members and friends.

The results, launched today, show Lucerne House was given an Overall Performance Rating (OPR) score of 924 out of 1,000 by residents, an improvement of 31 points from last year, and 865 by their family members and friends, an improvement of 23 on last year.
