Sparx Learning , the Exeter-based education technology company, has announced that Sir Charlie Mayfield will become Chair in October 2025. He will succeed Simon Lebus CBE who is stepping down after six years of transformative leadership.

Since becoming Chair in 2019, Simon Lebus has overseen a period of remarkable growth and strategic progress at Sparx. At the start of his tenure, the company served just 14 schools in Devon. Stagecoach, the country’s biggest bus and coach operator, is marking National Inclusion Week with new diversity and inclusion targets that will boost the number of females within its leadership team and create a more ethnically diverse workforce.

The new commitments come as part of the company’s recently published sustainability strategy Driving Net Zero: Better Places to Live and Work, targeting 40% of females in leadership roles and ensuring that 25% of the wider workforce is made up of ethnic minorities by 2026.

Foot Anstey, the national law firm, has announced details of its Managing Partner succession plan.

John Westwell, the current Managing Partner, will hand over to Martin Hirst at the end of the current financial year (30 April 2022) but will continue as a Partner and Foot Anstey board member for a further year, retiring from the Partnership on 30 April 2023. Amazon to hire more than 80 for seasonal roles in Exeter

Amazon has announced it is hiring for 20,000 seasonal positions across its UK network of fulfilment centres, sortation centres and delivery stations during the festive season, including more than 80 in the Exeter delivery station.

Live streaming platforms, carbon-neutral artificial reef systems and an app to support breastfeeding mothers are among the technologies developed by finalists at this year’s Tech South West Awards.
