Investigation launched into cause of fire at Riverside Leisure Centre

An investigation has been launched to determine how the blaze started at Exeter’s Riverside Leisure centre yesterday.

Emergency services worked together to tackle the major incident.

At around 4.20pm on Tuesday 21 February, Devon and Somerset Fire Service (DSFS) alerted police to a major fire within Riverside Leisure Centre, near to the Exe Bridges junction. A number of emergency support vehicles including around 17 fire appliances attended the scene to deal with this incident.

The Court has ruled against a heterosexual couple seeking to enter into a Civil Partnership instead of a marriage. Rebecca Steinfeld and Charles Keidan, appealed the decision of Mrs Justice Andrews DBE in the High Court, who held that the restrictions under the Civil Partnership Act 2004, preventing opposite-sex couples from entering into a civil partnership, were lawful.

Work to reduce the flood risk to over 400 properties in Teignmouth from flooding will get underway this month.

Teignbridge District Council is working to ensure that people, homes and businesses are protected from flooding by carrying out essential repairs and renewal to the sea defence structure at The Point.

Archaeologists working on the site of The Royal Clarence Hotel have this week discovered a medieval wall decoration of a peacock.

Previously hidden, and exposed only as work moved onto the medieval timber frame within the Well House, the peacock matches others examples the hotel group understands have previously been found across Exeter.

The discovery comes as the team of structural engineers from Thomasons continues to work with archaeologists on the restoration and rebuilding of The Royal Clarence Hotel.
